The Rheinmetall TARES ( T actical A dvanced R ecce S trike) was a project to develop an "Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle '(UCAV) and follow-up program of the Rheinmetall typhoon and is based like this on the KZO . The TARES first flight took place in December 2004. After a series of test flights in September 2005, the TARES was offered to the US Army for the Future Combat Systems (FCS) Class III UAV in cooperation with Teledyne Brown Engineering . But TARES was rejected, whereupon the development was stopped.

TARES was a relatively small drone with a length of 2.30 m, a wingspan of 2.60 m and a height of 1.10 m. With a motor with an output of 34 kW, the TARES operated at a cruising speed of 180 km / h, the maximum speed should be around 500 km / h. With a flight duration of up to 4 hours, the TARES should have an operational radius of up to 200 km.
