Ricardo Castro Herrera

Ricardo Castro Herrera (born February 7, 1864 in Durango , Mexico , † November 28, 1907 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican pianist and composer.

Life

Castro studied composition with Melisio Morales and piano with Julio Ituarte . Since 1882 he has enjoyed success as a pianist in New Orleans , Washington, DC and New York . In 1892 he was one of the founding members of the Sociedad Anónima de Conciertos . From 1902 he lived in Paris , where he met the pianist Cécile Chaminade and from where he attended the conservatories in Berlin, London, Brussels, Rome, Milan and Leipzig.

In 1904 he composed the Concertos pour pianos et violoncelles for the Belgian cellist Marix Loevensohn . He also wrote a symphony and a symphonic poem , a piano concerto, two operas ( Atzimba , 1900 and La Leyenda de Rudel , 1906) and numerous piano works.
