Richard Carey

Richard ("Rick") John Carey (born March 13, 1963 in Mount Kisco , New York ) is a former American swimmer .

His first major competition should be the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , but he could not take part in these games because of the US Olympic boycott. In 1981 he won the title in both the 100 m and 200 m backs at the US championships . In 1982 he was world champion in the 200 m back and with the 4 × 100 m individual relay at the World Championships in Guayaquil . In 1983 he was named World Swimmer of the Year . At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles he was Olympic champion over 100 m and 200 m back and with the 4 × 100 m layer relay. In 1986 he ended his successful career, during which he also set numerous world records.

In 1993 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
