Richard Heß (sculptor)
Richard Heß (born April 6, 1937 in Berlin ; † June 9, 2017 there ) was a German visual artist .
Life
In the years 1952 to 1955 Richard Heß completed an apprenticeship as wood sculptor. From 1956 to 1961 he studied sculpture at the Berlin University of the Arts before he became a master student with Bernhard Heiliger in 1961/62 . After this time he worked as a freelancer in Berlin from 1963 to 1965, and then from 1965 to 1968 he became Jürgen Weber's assistant at the architecture faculty of the Technical University of Braunschweig . Then he was assistant to Waldemar Grzimek at the architecture faculty of the then Technical University of Darmstadt (1968–1971), later lecturer at the same position (1971–1980). In 1980 he followed a call to Bielefeld , where he worked as a professor at the local university of applied sciences until 2001 . In the same year Hess returned to his native Berlin, where he has lived and worked ever since. The list of his sculptural work includes 724 works, 144 of which were created for public space.
Heß was a member of the Association of Visual Artists Berlin, the Artists' Association in Germany , the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, Rome and the Darmstadt Secession .
