Richard Scheffler (* 1891 ; † February 19, 1973 ) was a German architect and chairman of the Association of German Architects (BDA).

Live and act

Richard Scheffler worked in the office of the architect Adolf Braunwald and in 1926 received the order to build the new Heilbronner Hütte in Verwall . In February 1947, at his suggestion, the Heilbronn municipal council decided to hold an ideas competition for the reconstruction of Heilbronn's old town. In 1948, together with the judges and the award winners Kurt Marohn , Rudolf Gabel , Hannes Mayer and Hermann Wahl, he formed a "planning advisory board " which was supposed to help the city planning office and its board member Hans Gerber with the development of the old town planning "by evaluating the competition results". From 1958 to 1959, the Renaissance buildings of the small Teutonic Order Court in Heilbronn were reconstructed according to Scheffler's plans. According to Scheffler's plans and initial proposals, the former Deutschhof was rebuilt as a municipal cultural center. In the first construction phase, the former knight's hostel was rebuilt as a city library. The central buildings with the stepped gables, bay windows and outside staircase were also rebuilt according to plans by the architect Scheffler (together with O. Köllner) for the adult education center and the municipal youth music department.

In 1962 the Hans-Rießer -Haus, an evangelical community center, was built on Heilbronn's Wollhausplatz according to his plans (together with Herbert Alber ).
