Life

Genest grew up in LaSalle. At the age of 16 he got his first tattoo with the motif of a Jolly Rogers . After graduating from high school, he worked as a punk and anarchist in the squatter scene in Montreal . The decision to tattoo his entire body with the motif of a corpse was taken by Genest at the age of 19. He was influenced by a brain tumor that he was diagnosed with at the age of 15. After the operation, Genest lived initially as a homeless person and later with a surrogate family.

The art designer Nicola Formichetti , who works as a stylist for Lady Gaga , became aware of Rick Genest in March 2010 through photos on Facebook that he had uploaded of himself there. Formichetti paid a deposit of 15,000 euros in order to be able to engage Genest outside Canada for the first time on January 19, 2011 for a fashion show for Thierry Mugler . Otherwise, Genest would not have been allowed to leave the country due to a fine.

On February 27, 2011, he starred in the video shoot for Born This Way by Lady Gaga, in which the singer had Genest's tattoos traced as body paint. Later he also played in the music video of the Polish pop singer Honey for her song Sabotage . In a commercial for a make-up product, he can be seen with tattoos covered with make-up.

In 2013, Genest made a brief appearance in the fantasy film 47 Ronin .

On August 1, 2018, he was found dead in his apartment in Mont-Royal , a community near Montreal . The police have committed to suicide as the cause of death . However, his family and management have doubts about suicide. They assumed an accident. The coroner of the Canadian state of Québec confirmed the thesis of an accidental death in October 2019.

Modifications and records

In 2011, Genest was entered twice in the Guinness Book of Records as the record holder for his 176 insect and 139 bone tattoos .

By 2012 he had invested around 15,000 euros in his physical change. He wore the words Evil Dead on the fingers of both hands , based on the film The Evil Dead ( Dance of the Devils ) by Sam Raimi .
