The Saoseohütte ( Italian Rifugio Saoseo ) is a 1985  m above sea level. M. high-altitude mountain hut in the Swiss Alps . It is located in the seven kilometer long Val di Campo , a side valley of the Poschiavo on the south side of the Bernina Pass , which is surrounded on three sides by Italy. The managed hut belongs to the Bernina section of the Swiss Alpine Club .

The hut is suitable for day trippers, family holidays, hikers, nature lovers, alpinists and ski tourists and has a climbing garden.

history

The hut was built in 1935 as "Casa Lungacqua" (= along the water) for a family of mountain farmers with 18 cows. From the late 1930s to 1974, part of the house was rented by the Bernina section of the SAC. Another part of the house was rented from 1940 to 1957 by the border guard, who was also the hut warden and owned a telephone.

In 1974 the SAC bought the ground floor and the attic in the condominium and the mountain guide and director of the Pontresina mountain school, Paul Nigg , who also served as a hut warden, bought the two middle floors. In 1976 the house got a water pipe.

In 1980 a local mountain guide took over the SAC part and renovated the ground floor with a new kitchen and a restaurant. The hut has developed into a popular excursion destination for pedestrians and tourists with up to 5000 overnight stays (as of 1996).
