Riina Sikkut

Riina Sikkut (born January 12, 1983 ) is an Estonian politician . Since May 2, 2018, she has been Minister of Labor and Health of the Republic of Estonia.

Life

After graduating from high school, Sikkut studied at the University of Tartu and the University of London , where she obtained her Masters degree in 2010. She subsequently worked for the Estonian Ministry of Finance and Swedbank .

After Jevgeni Ossinovski retired to the post of chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Estonia (SDE), Sikkut was appointed as the new Minister for Labor and Health in the Ratas I cabinet in May 2018 . In this context she herself joined the SDE. In the 2019 parliamentary elections , she ran as the SDE candidate in the constituency of Haabersti, Põhja-Tallinn and Kristiine in Tallinn. There she managed to win a parliamentary seat in the Riigikogu with 1610 votes . Since her party did not become part of the government again, she has been an opposition member of parliament ever since.
