The Rinnerhütte is a shelter in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut , which is operated by the Ebensee Mountaineering Association. The hut is located in the western part of the Dead Mountains . The local mountain of the Rinnerhütte is the 2012 m high Rinnerkogel , which is located southwest of the hut. Neither a road nor a cable car lead to the hut and so it is mostly supplied by helicopter or human power.
History
The hut opened in 1934 and expanded to its present size in the 1960s and 1970s. Up until 1954, the approach was a long undertaking, because there was no road to Offensee until then . Until 1954 there was a forest railway ( Offenseebahn ), which was also approved for "restricted public transport".
