resume

Rob Krier is a brother of Leon Krier and worked for OM Ungers and Frei Otto after studying architecture in Munich (1959–1964) . After teaching in Stuttgart and Lausanne, he was professor at the Vienna University of Technology from 1976 to 1998 and guest professor at Yale University , New Haven, USA in 1986 .

Rob Krier became internationally known for his 1975 publication “Stadtraum”, in which - as in his later practice - he deals with the urban reconstruction of destroyed urban structures and the reintroduction of traditional spatial compositions into post-war urban planning. In connection with historical models and archetypal urban models, he developed, among other things, typologies of street and square spaces.

Examples of his early urban planning activities are in the course of the IBA realized in Berlin block perimeter cultivations at the Knight Street (1977-1980) and the city of villas on the Rauchstraße (1980) and the residential complex in the Breitenfurterstraße in Vienna (1981-1987). He moved his office, founded in Vienna in 1976, to Berlin in 1993, as the Kirchsteigfeld project in Potsdam (1992–1997) was implemented based on the urban planning design of his office . The office Krier ∙ Kohl, run in partnership with Christoph Kohl in Berlin, was responsible for urban development projects throughout Europe from 1993 to mid-2010, with planning focuses in the Netherlands: De Resident in The Hague (1989–2001), Noorderhof in Amsterdam (1995–1999 ), Meander in Amsterdam (1995–2006), Brandevoort near Helmond (since 1996), Citadel Broekpolder in Beverwijk-Heemskerk (since 2001), Gildenkwartier in Amersfoort (1997–2005) or Slot Haverleij near Herzogenbusch (1998–2011). Rob Krier has been a consultant for the renamed KK Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH since mid-2010.

Rob Krier is also active as a sculptor and mainly creates sculptures for public spaces.

In 1997 he was awarded honorary membership in the Association of German Architects .
