Robbie Coltrane
Robbie Coltrane , OBE ; actually Anthony Robert McMillan (born March 30, 1950 in Rutherglen , South Lanarkshire , Scotland ) is a British actor .
Life
After training at the Glasgow School of Art , he took out of reverence for the jazz - saxophonist John Coltrane at the last name. He performed as a stand-up comedian in clubs and at the Edinburgh Festival .
He had his breakthrough as a stage actor in 1978 with the play The Slab Boys by the Scottish playwright John Byrne at the Traverse Theater in Edinburgh . He made his first television appearance in 1980 as a border guard in the BBC miniseries The Lost Tribe . In the early 1980s he appeared in the comedy series The Comic Strip Presents , Blackadder and Saturday Night Live . He received a BAFTA nomination for Tutti Frutti .
From 1993 to 1996 he played the title role in the crime series For all cases Fitz ( Cracker ). The series, which is very popular with audiences and critics, has received numerous awards. Coltrane received a BAFTA for Best Television Actor for three years in a row for his portrayal of police psychologist "Fitz" Fitzgerald. In the US remake Fitz again and again, he appeared in 1998 in the episode White Devils ( White Ghost ) as a guest star.
In 1995 he starred in the James Bond film GoldenEye as a former KGB agent Valentin Dimitrovich Zukovsky ; a role he took on again in 1999 in James Bond 007 - The world is not enough . Coltrane's international fame increased afterwards through his participation in the eight film adaptations of the Harry Potter novels, in which he portrayed the half-giant Rubeus Hagrid over the period from 2001 to 2011 .
He has been separated from his wife Rhona Gemmell, a sculptor, since 2003. They have two children together (* 1992 and * 1998). Coltrane supports the independence of Scotland .
