Robert Bohn

Robert Bohn (born December 10, 1952 in Karlshafen ) is a German historian .

Life

Bohn studied Middle and Modern History, Eastern European History, Art History, Nordic Studies and Philosophy at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel (MA 1984). The University of Brno , University of Uppsala and University of Stockholm were other training locations. In 1987 he started with Hain Rebas at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Kiel with the dissertation The Donner Trading House in Visby and Gotland Foreign Trade in the 18th Century. A study on the trade and maritime history of the Baltic Sea region in late mercantilism for Dr. phil. PhD. In 1994 the habilitation followed with a thesis on the German occupation policy in Norway 1940-45 ('Reichskommissariat Norway').

In 1980 he became a research associate and later assistant at the history seminar at Kiel University. In 1991/92 he was visiting professor at the University of Oslo and Research Fellow of the Norwegian Research Council. In 1995/96 he held a chair at the Historical Institute of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald . In 1999 he became an adjunct professor for middle and modern history at the University of Kiel. In 1996/97 he became a research assistant at the Institute for Schleswig-Holstein Contemporary and Regional History (IZRG). From 2001 until his retirement in September 2018, he was director of the facility and professor for middle and modern history at the European University of Flensburg . His main research interests were regional and national history, the history of Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea region, and maritime history.

He is a member of the Society for Politics and Education Schleswig-Holstein and its advisory board for history, co-editor of the yearbook Democratic History .

He has lived in Kiel since 1975.
