Robert Ilse

Hermann Robert Ilse (born December 2, 1910 in Paris , † July 21, 1947 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German racing cyclist .

As an amateur, Robert Ilse won the Ruhrgau road championship in 1926 and became Gaumeister in 1928. In 1929 and 1930 he won the regional association championships on the track. In 1931 Ilse won the Ruhrgau championship and in 1932 became regional association champion. Then Ilse decided to practice cycling as a profession and in 1934 became a successful professional cyclist on the European cycle tracks as a stayer . In addition to Walter Lohmann from "RV Sturmvogel 04", Robert Ilse was one of the most successful professional drivers in Bochum .

On July 21, 1947, Robert Ilse fell on the cycling track in Frankfurt am Main while training for the German standing championship. After a tire failure he collided with the standing machine and seriously injured his thigh . Despite the immediate transport to the hospital and a blood donation from his friend who was traveling with him, Robert Ilse died as a result of the fall. Starting in 1950, a standing run was dedicated to his memory every year on the Bochum cycling track.
