Robert Lapoujade (born January 3, 1921 in Montauban , Tarn-et-Garonne department , † May 17, 1993 in Bellot , Seine-et-Marne department ) was a French painter and director .

Live and act

Lapoujade came from a long-established family of bakers and confectioners. When his father died in 1932, Lapoujade left school without a qualification and worked for the next seven years in the family business and as a kitchen helper in a restaurant. His first artistic attempts, which he was able to present in an exhibition in his hometown in 1939, also date from this time.

During the Second World War , Lapoujade was employed at the Château d'Uriage. He created the sets and costumes for the theater there. At the same time he acted under the pseudonym "Lucien Reynaud" as a front man for Jewish French who wanted to escape the Service du travail obligatoire (STO). In the summer of 1942, Lapoujade went to Paris , where he found an apartment in the 6th arrondissement .

At the end of the war, Lapoujade made the acquaintance of publishers Jean Bardet and Paul Flammand and created the logo and several book illustrations for their publisher, Éditions du Seuil . With their support he was able to hold his first exhibition in Paris in 1947.

Through Francis Jeanson he came to his Réseau Jeanson in 1958 and remained connected to it for two years. On September 1, 1960, he was also one of the signatories of the 121st Manifesto .

Between 1980 and 1986 Lapoujade was appointed lecturer at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs ( Grande école ).

At the age of 72, Robert Lapoujade died on May 17, 1993 in Bellot, where he found his final resting place.
