Robert Pecl (born November 15, 1965 in Vienna , Austria ) is a former Austrian football player . The defender won two Austrian championships with SK Rapid Wien and took part in the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Career

Robert Pecl was nicknamed "Eisenfuß" and "Roter Robert" because of his relentless style of play. He played for Rapid in the Bundesliga from 1986 to 1995 , including the last four years as captain, before he had to end his career at the age of 29 due to injury. He enjoyed great popularity and was voted Austria's Footballer of the Year by fans in 1990 and 1991 . His first two years with the Green-Whites were extremely successful, together with his defensive partner Kurt Garger , the Austrian championship in 1987 and 1988 and the ÖFB Cup in 1987 against FC Swarovski were won. Robert Pecl had to wait until his last game for his next title win. When he won the 1995 Cup against DSV Leoben , the defender was substituted on for the last minute as a farewell.

Due to his great success in the early years at Rapid, Robert Pecl joined the Austrian national team under Branko Elsner in 1987 and made his debut against Spain in October . As a regular player he successfully qualified for the World Cup in '90 , in the last friendly against the Netherlands Robert Pecl scored a goal in a 3-2 win. At the World Cup in Italy , Robert Pecl was used in all games, but had to admit defeat with the Hickersberg team in the group stage. By 1993, the defender had 31 missions in the national team.

After the football career

Robert Pecl has been sales manager at PF Concept, a promotional products retailer, since 2003.
