Robert von Pohl

Robert von Pohl (from 1919 Robert Pohl , born February 8, 1876 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary , † December 24, 1947 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian professional soldier.

Life

Robert von Pohl graduated from the Theresian Military Academy and began his career as a lieutenant in 1896. As a general staff officer, he was used in various positions. In 1911/12 he was a wing adjutant to the chief of the general staff and in 1912 had the rank of major in the general staff.

Von Pohl was deployed on the southern front during the First World War . He excelled in the defense of Gorizia . From September 1916 he was Chief of Staff of the VII. Corps, from November 1916 of the XV. Corps and was promoted to colonel in 1917. In 1918 he became commander of the K. k. Rifle Regiment No. 9 .

After the surrender, von Pohl became a soldier in the People's Army in the Republic of Austria . In 1919 Pohl was affected by the Nobility Repeal Act . At the beginning of 1920 he was employed as a deputy army inspector, but was retired in 1922. Pohl was historiographically active and advised the war archives as a consultant on the drafting of the general staff work "Austria-Hungary's last war 1914-18". Pohl became politically active with the Legitimists . He was the initiator of a reply to Alfred Krauss ' book The "Miracle of Good Freit" .
