Robinson shall not die is a German feature film from 1957. The film with Romy Schneider , Horst Buchholz and Erich Ponto in the leading roles was based on the play of the same name by Friedrich Forster . The director was Josef von Báky .
action
Daniel Defoe is the famous writer and author of Robinson Crusoe , but also storyteller for fun for boys Ben, Charly and Jim who have to work hard at the cotton mill. Maud Cantley also works in the factory and Defoe lives with her mother as a sublet . Defoe was once an advisor to King George II . But since he fell out of favor with the king and Defoe's books were banned because too many sailors took refuge on the islands following the example of Robinson, the writer has struggled to get through life. In addition, he has fallen out with his son Tom. Tom goes into debt and is put in guilty prison . But his father is indomitable and doesn't want to help him now either. Maud, on the other hand, believes in Tom and visits him in prison. She leaves herself as a pledge for Tom so that he can visit his father, who has become seriously ill over the anger. She wants the two to reconcile. Defoe, however, is adamant and the son steals his greatest treasure in return: the valuable handwritten manuscript of his novel Robinson Crusoe. Tom sells the manuscript to a second-hand dealer for a ridiculous price and uses it to pay off his debts, thereby freeing him. Then he disappears with the gangster king Carlton Heep and a few shady characters. Maud and the children immediately go looking for him, including Ben, Charly and Jim, who instead, because of their terrible work in the cotton factory, actually wanted to hire Robinson's example on a ship that evening in order to run away forever . They find it in the Carlton Heep tavern and take Tom with them. In Hyde Park , they stop briefly caught him while Maud obtained an audience with the king personally. He gives Tom money so that he can buy back the manuscript and also wants to ensure that children no longer have to work so hard. They all visit Defoe at Mrs. Cantley's apartment. Tom and Maud read to the critically ill writer from Robinson Crusoe.

Reviews
“Children from the slums of London organize help for Daniel Defoe (1660–1731), the aged and distressed author of her favorite book 'Robinson Crusoe'. No historical biography, but warm-hearted, cheerfully staged and played entertainment. "
