Rodrigo Arocena

Rodrigo Arocena

Rodrigo Arocena Linn (born February 23, 1947 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan mathematician , university professor , journalist and publicist .

Arocena successfully completed his mathematics studies in 1976 at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and received his doctorate there three years later with Mischa Cotlar . He obtained a further doctorate in development research in 1990 at the Center for Development Research ( Centro de Estudios del Desarrollo (CENDES)) of that university. The doctoral supervisor was Heinz Rudolf Sonntag .

Since 1987 he has been a lecturer at the Universidad de la República (UdelaR) in Montevideo. Since 2006 he has been the rector of this university. He is currently the holder of a professorship (professor titular ) for science and development research at the Facultad de Ciencias of the UdelaR.

Awards (excerpt)

In 1985 he was awarded the Premio "Lorenzo Mendoza Fleury" in mathematics by the Venezuelan Fundación Polar . In 1999 he and Judith Sutz received the prize of the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture ( Ministerio de Educación y Cultura ) in the category "Research and Teaching" ( Investigación y Difusión Científica ) for the book published the previous year.
