Roger Van Gool (born June 1, 1950 in Nieuwmoer ) is a former Belgian football player .

Roger Van Gool went down as the first “million” purchase in the history of the Bundesliga . In 1976 he moved from Club Brugge to 1. FC Köln for one million DM . The transfer was also a sensation, as Club Bruges was considered to be the top European club at the time. The dribbling right winger immediately became a crowd favorite in Cologne and had 96 Bundesliga appearances by 1980, in which he scored 28 goals. These years were also the most successful times for the Cologne club. Under coach Hennes Weisweiler , Van Gool was part of the team that won the German championship in 1978, won the DFB Cup twice , and reached the semi-finals of the European Cup against Nottingham Forest in 1979 . After spending the 1983/84 season without a club and unemployed in the small village of Flaux near Nîmes , he let his active career come to an end at Sportkring Sint-Niklaas in his home country .
