Roland Berens

Roland Berens (* 1949 in Verl ) is a German blues musician , songwriter and literary translator.

Life

At the age of twenty he decided to pursue a solo career with a 12-string guitar and blues harp . In 1970 he appeared in the opening act for Rory Gallagher at the first Westphalian rock festival in Bielefeld. Further concerts with the Scorpions , John Mayall and Alexis Korner followed. After initially playing music based on Anglo-American folk-blues models, he decided on German lyrics.

In 1975 he obtained a diploma in the engineering course in information processing and from 1992 to 1997 he studied Hispanic studies, literature and economics at the University of Bielefeld.

Roland Berens' music contains rock, blues, folk and jazz elements. By 2015 Berens had given over 2500 concerts in cultural institutions, clubs and festivals.

The Hispanic doctorate also works as a literary translator and non-fiction author. In 2011 he translated Horacio Quiroga , Latin America's first classical narrator, and in 2018 José Manuel Ruiz Marcos. In 2019 he published a travel book about Costa Rica .

Works

  • His LP Menschen was released in 1982 . The blue title Do not break with violence is aimed at young people and calls on them to renounce violence.
  • The 1997 CD Wilde Zeiten (Iron Curtain) again contained German rock and blues ballads.
  • In 1998 he performed with throw away your sword at the cultural festival "350 Years of Westphalian Peace" in Münster.
  • In 2008 and 2011 he was obliged to tour Kosovo with the German KFOR soldiers.
  • In 2013 he presented new German music culture for the Goethe Institute in Mexico and Costa Rica.
