Romain Bussine

Romain Bussine (born November 4, 1830 in Paris , † October 21, 1899 ibid) was a French opera singer (baritone), vocal teacher and poet.

Life

The brother of the baritone Prosper-Albert Bussine studied at the Paris Conservatory with Manuel Garcia and Marie Moreau-Sainti . He began a career as a singer at the Opéra-Comique and sang, among other things, the high priest in Camille Saint-Saëns ' opera Samson et Dalila in 1870 . In 1877 he took over a professorship at the Conservatoire de Paris , which he held until his death. In 1872 he founded the Société Nationale de Musique (with the motto ars gallica ), of which he was president until 1886. He was also active as a poet. Some of his poems ( Après un Rêve and Sérénade Toscane ) were set to music by his friend Gabriel Fauré .
