Romeo Menti (born September 5, 1919 in Vicenza , † May 4, 1949 in Turin ) was an Italian football player . He played in the position of winger and was a member of the Grande Torino .

Career

For the 1938/39 season, Romeo Menti moved from his home club Vicenza Calcio to the then Serie B club AC Fiorentina . In the first season he was promoted to Serie A here . The club was able to hold its own here in the following seasons, and in the 1939/40 season they even won the Coppa Italia . In the 1941/42 season Menti then moved to AC Turin, where he stayed until the 1945/46 season when he returned to Florence for one season before moving again to AC Turin.

On May 4, 1949, Romeo Menti died in the Superga plane crash . In this accident, the Grande Torino team was almost completely wiped out. He is buried on the Cimitero Monumentale della Misericordia in Antella .

In the same year (1949), in memory of Menti, the Vicenza City Council decided to rename the city's football ground to Stadio Comunale Romeo Menti .
