Career highlights and awards

Ronald Vincent "Ron" Jaworski (* 23. March 1951 in Lackawanna , Erie County , New York ) is a former American American football player . He played quarterback in the National Football League (NFL).

Youth / college

Jaworski, nickname : Jaws , played baseball , basketball and American football in high school before studying at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio , where he was employed as a quarterback for the Youngstown State Penguins .

Professional time

In the 1973 NFL Draft , Jaworski was drawn 37th by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round. At the Rams, Jaworski could not prevail and did not get beyond the role of a substitute player. His coach Chuck Knox , therefore exchanged him for the tight end Charle Young of the Philadelphia Eagles before the 1977 season and thus helped the Eagles and their trainer Dick Vermeil unintentionally to develop into a top team. In his first year, Jaworski took over the role of starting quarterback from Roman Gabriel and would not give up this position in the next few years. From 1978 to 1981, the Eagles reached the play-offs regularly . In 1980 they were able to beat their permanent rivals, the Dallas Cowboys under coach Tom Landry , in the NFC Championship Game with 20: 7 and thus moved into the Super Bowl , where they trained in Super Bowl XV against the Oakland, led by Tom Flores and led by Jim Plunkett Raiders, however, lost at 10:27. This year Jaworski was able to achieve a space gain of 3,529 yards during the regular season . 27 of his passes were caught on touchdowns .

In the next few years Jaworski could not lead his team in a final, although his personal numbers were quite satisfactory. In 1985 he had to give up his regular position to Randall Cunningham and a year later he was given to the Miami Dolphins . In 1987 he was not used and in 1988 received little playing time behind Dan Marino . After a year with the Kansas City Chiefs , he ended his career. In 15 years as a professional, he achieved 195 touchdowns through passes and running play with 164 interceptions in 188 games .

Honors

Jaworski played once in the Pro Bowl , the final game of the best players of the season. In 1980 he was voted MVP of the season. He is a member of the Eagles Hall of Fame and the National Polish American Sports Hall of Fame .

After the career

Jaworski works as a television presenter and football analyst. He is president of the Philadelphia Soul of a team in the Arena Football League , he is also co-owner of a hotel and owner of a golf course. Jaworski is married and has three children.
