Ronald Jack Mix (born March 10, 1938 in Los Angeles , California , United States ), nickname : "The Intellectual Assassin" is a retired American football player . He played as an offensive tackle and guard in the American Football League (AFL) and in the National Football League (NFL) with the San Diego Chargers and Los Angeles Raiders .

Player career

Ron Mix attended Hawthorne , the High School and received after finishing school a scholarship at the University of Southern California (USC). Mix studied law and played American football for his college football team , the USC Trojans. In 1960 he was drafted by the Baltimore Colts but also by the Boston Patriots . The Patriots played in the newly formed American Football League , but gave the rights of Mix to the Los Angeles Chargers before the season . The team was coached by Sid Gillman , who used Mix to protect quarterback Jack Kemp in the Chargers' offense . 1960 Mix could move with his team in the AFL final , but where they lost to the Houston Oilers with 24:16.

Before the 1961 season, the team moved to San Diego . The team was able to move into the final against the Oilers and this time the game was lost 10: 3.

In 1963 Mix was able to win his only championship title. The team had meanwhile been reinforced with talented young players such as Lance Alworth , John Hadl and Paul Lowe . In the AFL final, the Patriots were defeated with 51:10. It was to be Mix's only title win. Together with his team, he failed twice in the final in 1964 and 1965. Ron Mix retired after the 1969 season. He returned to the NFL in 1971 and was under contract with the Oakland Raiders for two years, but was only used in the 1971 season.

After the career

Ron Mix now works as a lawyer in San Diego.

Honors

Ronald Mix played eight times in the Pro Bowl , the final game of the best players of the season. He was voted All-Pro nine times . He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame , the American Football League All-Time Team , the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame .
