Ronald Daus
Ronald Daus (born May 12, 1943 in Hanover ) is a German Romance philologist with a focus on Latin American studies .
Life
Ronald Daus studied Romance Studies ( Portuguese , Spanish , French , Italian ) and Oriental Studies ( Arabic , Malay , Tagalog ) in Hamburg , Lisbon , Rio de Janeiro and Kiel . In 1967 he received his doctorate on The Epic Cycle of Cangaceiros in Folk Poetry of Northeast Brazil . In 1970 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on Ramón Gómez de la Serna . In 1970 he was appointed professor of Hispanic , Lusitan and Latin American studies at the Free University of Berlin , where he researched and taught until his retirement in 2008.
Daus has been dealing with contacts between European peoples and non-European cultures in the field of "New Romania" for more than 40 years. He taught as a visiting professor a. a. two years at the Colegio de México in Mexico City and one year each at the Institute of South East Asian Studies in Singapore , the University of the Philippines in Manila and the Université du Pacifique in Tahiti .
His areas of expertise are overseas voyages of discovery, the emergence and further development of colonialism, European-non-European mixed cultures and non-European metropolitan literature and metropolitan research.
In addition to his publications, he was co-editor of the journal Neue Romania of the Free University of Berlin from 1982 to 2008 and has been co-editor of the journal Kosmopolis - Interkulturelle Zeitschrift from Berlin , Babylon Metropolis Studies , since 1997 .
