Ronald Waterreus (born August 25, 1970 in Lemiers ) is a former Dutch football goalkeeper .

Career

In 1992 Waterreus began his career with Roda JC Kerkrade . After moving to PSV Eindhoven in 1994 , he soon made a name for himself as a goalkeeper. This also secured him the appointment to the national team , with which he took part in the 2004 European Championship.

After ten years as a regular goalkeeper at PSV, Waterreus moved to the English Premier League at Manchester City for one season in 2004 . In 2005 he signed with the traditional Scottish club Glasgow Rangers . He was supposed to replace the injured Stefan Klos there . He quickly became a regular goalkeeper and was there when the Rangers made it to the Champions League round of 16 for the first time .

Ronald Waterreus came under heavy criticism from his club and their fans when he complained to a Dutch newspaper about the manager and president of the Rangers. Thereupon Waterreus left the Rangers in July 2006. In December of the same year he signed a short-term contract with AZ Alkmaar , before he signed with the New York Red Bulls in January 2007 . There he ended his career in November 2007.
