Roni Size (* 29. October 1969 in Bristol , England as Ryan Owen Granville Williams ) is an influential drum-and-bass - producer and DJ.

Life

Roni Size grew up as the son of Jamaican immigrants in St Andrew's, a suburb of Bristol . When he was 16, he was banned from school and began attending house parties hosted by the Wild Bunch sound system , which later became Massive Attack , among other things . He learned the basics of music production in the local youth club before finally setting up his own studio.

In 1992 he met DJ Krust with whom he founded the music label Full Cycle Records a year later . In 1997 the double album New Forms was released by the music collective Reprazent , newly founded by Roni Size , for which he was awarded the Mercury Prize . According to the Guinness Book of Records 2002, it is considered the best-selling drum and bass album. In 2001, Roni Size discovered MC Tali , with whom he recorded the record Lyric on my Lip .
