Rosa Jegorowna Schanina ( Russian Роза Егоровна Шанина; born April 3, 1924 in Edma, Ustja Rajon in Arkhangelsk Oblast , Russian SFSR ; † January 28, 1945 in East Prussia ) was a Soviet sniper in World War II . They were responsible for 59 fatal hits, including 12 during Operation Bagration (June to August 1944) in Vilnius .

After attending the Arkhangelsk Pedagogical University, Schanina ran a kindergarten . Later she voluntarily completed basic military training and entered the Academy of Female Snipers in Podolsk . On June 22, 1943, Schanina was accepted into the Red Army and finally on April 2, 1944 in the separate female sniper platoon of the 184th Infantry Division. On June 18 and September 22, 1944 she was awarded the Order of Glory .

On December 12, 1944, Shanina was shot in the shoulder. About two weeks later, on December 27th, she received the Medal of Bravery .

Rosa Jegorovna Shanina was killed on January 28, 1945 during a battle in East Prussia . Her diary and numerous letters were published posthumously. Two settlements in the city of Arkhangelsk are named after her.
