The Rosenlauibiwak is a refuge of the Swiss Alpine Club Section Oberaargau in the Bernese Alps in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

Location and operation

The hut is located east of the Rosenlauigletscher on the summer ascent to the Dossenhütte at 2330  m above sea level. M. , pressed against the rock on the edge of the scree slope. It is operated by the Oberaargau section of the Swiss Alpine Club, is not manned and is closed in summer.

history

The rust-red metal bivouac, built in 1973, is used by ski tourers on their way to the Wetterhorn and Rosenhorn area. It is the winter alternative to the Dossenhütte. The small accommodation has no light, no oven and no cooking facilities. Eleven mattresses, blankets and dishes are available.

Approach

From Rosenlaui (normal route) in 3 hours, 980 meters in altitude, difficulty level T4

Coming from Rosenlaui you can reach the Rosenlauibiwak on the approach to the Dossenhütte on the white-blue-white marked footpath in about 3 hours. Above the Rosenlaui glacier gorge , the path branches off from the approach to the Engelhornhütte . From an altitude of around 2150  m, the ascent is sometimes difficult and not without risk; the ascent from Rosenlauibiwak to Dossenhütte takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, although the distance as the crow flies is less than 700 meters.

The bivouac is a good starting point for ski tours on the Rosenhorn ( 3688  m ) and the Wetterhorn ( 3690  m ).
