In 1838, the sister of the order, Mother Maria Giovanna Antonietti di Baceno (1809–1872) and the Blessed Antonio Rosmini on Monte Calvario near Domodossola ( Italy ) developed the idea of founding a female branch in addition to the male order of the Rosminians . In 1839 Pope Gregory XVI approved the congregation and gave it the name. The Generalate has its seat in Rome , the motherhouse is located in Borgomanero . The congregation has several locations in Italy , it has offices in Tanzania , Venezuela , Colombia , India , Great Britain and Ireland . The order symbol

In the symbol of the Rosminian and Rosminian Sisters, the surrounding words Legis (German: Commandment) - Plenitudo (German: Wholeness or completeness) - Charitas (German: Charity), in the context it symbolically means: “Commandment to complete Charity ”. A pelican is shown in the middle of the circle, feeding three young pelican chicks. The symbolism shows the great care the pelican takes for his young, which he defends down to his own blood in an emergency. This symbol is intended to represent Jesus Christ as a good pelican who sacrificed himself for humanity and gave his blood to save humanity. For the Rosminians it is the sign of total surrender to great service to God.

Spirituality and devotion

The main focus of their efforts is the practical application of charity. It is driven by the inseparable belief in " Divine Providence ", combined with the divine commission the scattered seeds (cf. 1 Cor 15.38 EU : "But God gives him a body as he wants, each seed his own body" ) to look after and to preserve. The sisters want to live and work in the awareness of the divine presence. With trust in Providence and with total devotion , they want to practice charity.
