Rossenowo (also Rosenovo , or Rossenovo , Bulgarian Росеново ) is a village in the municipality of Sredez in the Burgas Oblast in southeastern Bulgaria . The village is located in the Strandscha Mountains, around 8 km south of the Sredez community center and around 35 km west of the provincial capital Burgas .

history

After the liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire , the village was abandoned by the Circassians living here and settled in the next decades by Bulgarian refugees from Thrace in what is now the north of Greece and Turkey (see Thracian Bulgarians ). The village was named Gerge bunar ( Bulgarian Герге бунар ). The concentration of refugees and the proximity of the Ottoman border meant that in the run-up to the Ilinden-Preobraschenie uprising (1903) in Eastern Thrace, Burgas became an important logistical base of the BMARK . Training camps, weapons and provisions stores were set up at Gerge bunar. After the uprising, refugee camps were set up.

In 1934, the village was named in honor of the writer Petko Rossen in Rosenovo renamed. In the People's Republic of Bulgaria , Rossenowo was part of the restricted military area that enclosed the Bulgarian-Turkish border. Entering the village was only possible with a permit from the military and the district police.

In 1997 the Chateau Rossenovo winery was established in the village .
