Rottleben is a district of the community Kyffhäuserland in the Thuringian Kyffhäuserkreis located on the road connecting the district town of Sondershausen and Bad Frankenhausen .
climate
Due to its location on the southern slope of the small Kyffhäuser Mountains , Rottleben lies in the rain shadow and is therefore one of the dry areas in Germany.
history
The first written mention of the place is from 1125 . Starting with the Count of Rothenburg, the owners changed often, most recently the Counts of Schwarzburg . Until 1918 the place belonged to the rule of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .
On December 31, 2012, the municipality of Rottleben merged with other municipalities of the Kyffhäuser community to form the municipality of Kyffhäuserland.
Attractions
A hoard with neck and arm rings from the younger Bronze Age was recovered near the Falkenmühle.
ruins
The ruins of the Falkenburg lie above the Barbarossa Cave . It was built by Heinrich von Valckenbrugk around 1360 and was probably destroyed around 1458.

Natural monuments
The Barbarossa Cave, discovered in 1860, is one of the sights of the municipality . It has been open to visitors since 1866. Associated with the Barbarossa Cave is the belief that the Emperor Barbarossa only sleeps in the mountain of the small Kyffhäuser Mountains. The Barbarossa Cave is located below the Falkenburg ruins .
Cultural monuments
There is also a fruit variety conservation garden on the Schlachtberg in Rottleben.
Memorials
In the local cemetery , graves and memorial stones commemorate two named forced laborers from Italy and Yugoslavia who were deported to Germany during World War II and who died in April 1945.
