Roy Estrada (born April 17, 1943 in Santa Ana ) is a rock singer and bassist .

Together with Jimmy Carl Black , Estrada founded the group "Soul Giants" in 1964. In 1965, Frank Zappa joined the group that, after being renamed several times, eventually became known as The Mothers of Invention . With this he played a total of eight albums and also worked on a Zappa solo album. He was also involved in the Zappa-produced albums Permanent Damage by the groupie band GTO’s and Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band .

In 1969 he left the Mothers with Lowell George to form Little Feat . Estrada only played on the first two albums and left the group in 1972. For a short time he became a member of Beefheart's Magic Band, which he knew from their previous collaboration. Estrada's bass playing can also be heard on Discover America by Van Dyke Parks , Mudlark by Leo Kottke , and Ry Cooders debut album. In 1975 and 1976 he toured again with the Mothers and played Zappa's album Zoot Allures . Between 1981 and 1984 he was involved in six other Zappa albums.

Estrada has played in the group The Grandmothers since 2000 with the former Zappa musicians Don Preston and Napoleon Murphy Brock, among others .

In 2003 Estrada's solo debut album Hamburger Midnight was released on the record label Inkanish Records , on which he again worked with Jimmy Carl Black.

In 2012, the musician began serving a 25-year prison sentence for continued child abuse.
