life and work

Kinnear attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . He later became a valued member of Joan Littlewood's Theater Workshop Ensemble . He gained greater fame in 1962 when he appeared on the satirical television show That Was the Week That Was on the BBC . From then on he acted in more than 120 TV films, series and feature films.

Because of his figure - Kinnear was overweight as a boy and became even plump in later years - he was committed to the comedic subject. He was one of Richard Lester's favorite actors and has played since the Beatles movie Help! with great success in almost all of the director's productions .

Kinnear had an accident while filming the film The Return of the Musketeers in 1988 : When he fell from a horse, he fractured his pelvis and died of heart failure in a clinic in Madrid a day later.

Director and friend Richard Lester ended his film career as a direct consequence of this accident. Six years later, the Roy Kinnear Foundation was set up in honorable memory . This maintains a house in Twickenham , England , where a home has been created for severely disabled young people.

He left three children. His son Rory Kinnear (* 1978) is also an actor.
