Schwaiger first began to work in wood. However, his training at Wotruba led him to stone carving. Initially, cubist and abstract works of art were created under the influence of his teacher. Soon, however, he found a figurative formal language, also described as baroque, determined by curves, which became typical for him.

Schwaiger was active in the post-war period with the restoration and restoration of destroyed monuments and other sculptures. He then received numerous commissions for art in building in newly built municipal buildings from the municipality of Vienna . Rudolf Schwaiger often took part in exhibitions. His works can be found in the Museum of the City of Linz and in the Leopold Collection .
