The spur castle stands at 492  m above sea level. NN high hill that drops steeply on two sides to the Marienschlucht , on the third to Lake Constance. The fourth side is secured by an artificial gorge.

The beginnings of the castle can be traced back to the 13th century. On May 25, 1525, insurgent farmers burned the castle down. It has been uninhabited since then and is in ruins.

Of the castle, only the south wall of the residential tower and some barely noticeable stone remains of the wall ring in the west of the complex can be seen.
