The Romanian Cultural Institute Titu Maiorescu ( Romanian : Institutul de Cultură Titu Maiorescu ) is a cultural institution based in the Hans-Dietrich-Genscher-Haus at Reinhardtstrasse 14 in the Mitte district of Berlin . It is one of 17 Romanian cultural institutes worldwide and subordinate to the cultural institute in Bucharest . The cultural institute has been a member of the EUNIC network since 2006 .

history

The cultural institute was founded in 1999 based on an agreement on cultural cooperation between the governments of Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany as one of 17 branches of the Romanian cultural institute in Bucharest in 16 countries.

It is named after the Romanian writer Titu Maiorescu , founder of modern literary criticism in Romania and head of the Junimea literary society in Iași .

From 1999 to 2015, the cultural institute was located in the listed Villa Walther on Lake Herthasee in the Grunewald district . The villa was built in 1912 and is considered an example of late Wilhelmine representative architecture in the area of ​​private villa construction. In 1980 the building received an extension and in 1988 its present shape.

The building has a conference hall with 80 seats, an exhibition room of 90 square meters, a library and a classroom. In August 2015 the cultural institute moved into the Hans-Dietrich-Genscher-Haus in the center of Berlin . The reason for the move is the hope of a more public-friendly location.
