Ryōko Takahashi ( Japanese 高橋 涼子 , Takahashi Ryōko ; born August 29, 1973 in Mamurogawa , Yamagata Prefecture ) is a former Japanese biathlete . She took part in six biathlon world championships and Olympic winter games.

Ryōko Takahashi initially ran cross-country skiing and was runner-up as a student. She switched to biathlon in 1996. To do this, she had to go to the "winter combat training unit" (Tōsenkyō) of the ground self-defense forces , as is customary in Japan . She lives in Shinjō and trained in Sapporo . At the beginning of the 1996/97 season she made her debut in the Biathlon World Cup in Lillehammer and was 61st of the sprint race. However, she became famous for a spectacular fall in this race, which went through the world press. In her next outing, a single race in 1997 in Oberhof , she not only won first points in ninth place, but also placed in the top ten for the first time. The first high point of her career was the 1997 Biathlon World Championships in Osrblie , where the Japanese was 70th in the individual, 57th in the sprint, with Mami Shindo , Hiromi Suga and Kyōko Yamauchi in the relay race and with Shindo, Suga and Sakiko Takefushi in the team race, each 15th This was followed by the first participation in the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan . Takahashi achieved sixth place in the singles almost sensationally. It was also the best international result for the Japanese. In the sprint he was 55th and with Shindo, Suga and Mie Takeda as the last runner of season 14.

Takahashi's next major event was the weather-messed up Biathlon World Championships in Kontiolahti in 1999 , where she was 53rd in the sprint and tenth with Shindo, Suga and Tamami Tanaka in the relay. It was followed in 2000 by the world title fights at Holmenkollen in Oslo . Takahashi was 57th of the individual, 58th of the sprint and 46th of the pursuit, as well as ninth in the cast of the previous year, in which the next two seasons were to be contested at major events. The Japanese competed in the last World Cup in 2001 in Pokljuka , she was 70th in the individual, 47th in the sprint race, 27th in the pursuit and ninth in the relay competition. The last major event and career completion was the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . In the Soldier Hollow competitions , Takahashi finished 50th in the individual, 28th in the sprint, 36th in the pursuit and 14th in the relay of Japan.
