Marking of the "Saxon axis" in a city map of Warsaw from 1831

The Saxon Axis ( Oś Saska in Polish ) is a partially existing baroque urban development in Warsaw from the beginning of the 18th century, which runs in an east-west direction.

It was built by the Polish King August II the Strong around 1700 - during the Saxon period . The Saxon axis ran from the Kraków suburb in a westerly direction over the then Saxon Square (today Piłsudski Square), the former Saxon Palace , the Saxon Garden , the west gate of the park , the no longer existing market square in Wielopolska ( Plac Za Żelazną Bramą ) to the barracks of the mounted royal guard in today's Wola district . After the Lubomirski Palace rotated in 1969, the axis in the west ends with him today. The Saxon axis runs transversely to another axis, the older Warsaw Royal Route , which starts with the Krakow suburbs from north to south.
