The class VIII V1 of the Saxon State Railroad ( class 13.15 or class 13.71 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn ) was purchased based on the Prussian S 3 . The double-coupled express train locomotive was equipped with a two-cylinder compound drive.

history

A total of 32 machines were built by Hartmann , which were divided into three construction lots (1896: 10 pieces, 1897: 10 pieces and 1900: 12 pieces). The locomotives of the third batch were a little heavier and more powerful and had a boiler pressure increased from 12 to 13 bar. The VIII V1 gradually displaced its predecessor from high-quality train service.

The vehicles handled almost all of the express train traffic in Saxony, but turned out to be too weak, especially on the routes with steep gradients. In 1925, the locomotives only played a subordinate role in express train service.

The Deutsche Reichsbahn took over 23 locomotives. Eleven machines from the third batch were given the numbers 13 1501 to 13 1511; the twelve older machines from construction lots 1 and 2 were given the numbers 13 7101 to 13 7112. All machines were taken out of service by 1930.

The locomotives were tenders the type SAE 3 T 12, T 15 and SAE SAE 3 2'2 'T 21 equipped.
