Sébastien Chabal (born December 8, 1977 in Valence , Département Drôme ) is a former French rugby player .
Career
society
The 1.91 m tall and 115 kg heavy Chabal, who only started playing rugby at the age of 17 , joined CS Bourgoin-Jallieu in the top 14 , the highest , in 1998 from Valence Sportif , in the second French amateur league, Fédérale 2 , to CS Bourgoin-Jallieu French professional league. From 2004 to 2009 he played for the Sale Sharks in the English Premiership . During this time he occupied positions in the third row .
At the end of the 2008/09 season he left England again and moved back to the top 14 for the then promoted Racing Métro 92 . At the traditional club from the Paris suburbs, he was used in the second row .
After disagreements with Pierre Berbizier , the trainer of Racing Métro 92, Chabal left the top 14 prematurely in order to make a brief guest appearance at the Australian club Balmain RC in 2012 . In the 2012/13 season he signed a contract with Lyon OU , which had previously been relegated to Pro D2 , the second professional league in France . He ended his professional career in early May 2014.
National team
Chabal was used 62 times in the French national team . He made his debut against Scotland , he was also a member of the tournaments of the World Cup in 2003 and 2007 and the six-nation tournament between 2007 and 2011 , in which he played in the second row. In spring 2014 he announced that he would end his active career as a rugby player towards the end of the 2013/14 season .
Others
Because of his rabid appearance, a full beard and long hair, he has, among other things, been nicknamed the caveman . His visual work and his appearances in public brought him a great reputation outside of sport and numerous advertising contracts.
