The locomotives of the SŽD series ТЭП60 (German transcription TEP 60) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) are wide-gauge diesel locomotives primarily for express train service on non-electrified routes.
history
The locomotive was built at the Kolomna plant in 1960 after three variants were offered to choose from in 1959:
- 1. a locomotive with two final driver's cabs, the wheel arrangement Bo´Bo´ and use of the diesel engine D 45
- 2. The same locomotive design with the Co'Co 'wheel arrangement and two driver's cabs
- 3. As variant 1, but with only one driver's cab.
Variant 2 was used as the basis for production. After the completion of the prototype ТЭП60-0001 , it was extensively tested on the October Railway from mid-1960 . After extensive tests by the SŽD , series production started in 1961. By 1985, 1240 locomotives were produced.
Roughly, one can say that the locomotives were primarily used on broad-gauge lines in the Baltic states and were used there on non-electrified lines until around the year 2000. In particular, the vehicles were entrusted with the covering of the Moscow - Kaliningrad long-distance express train in the Vilnius - Kybartai section . In 2011 the machines could no longer be observed in action. Many vehicles have been preserved and can be viewed in the numerous museums of the former USSR .
Technical descriptions
The locomotive is a bogie locomotive with two three-axle bogies. The locomotive superstructure is divided into the two noise-insulated, separated driver's cabs, the adjoining entry areas and the engine room in between. The locomotive frame is supported with around 50% of its mass by eight pendulum supports with interposed coil springs on the two bogie frames. To transmit the horizontal tensile and braking forces as well as to absorb the other 50% frame mass, there are two eccentric pivot pins, each with two return spring pots, which are elastically mounted in rubber cone springs. Two handlebar levers mounted in rubber bushings guide the roller-mounted wheel sets for each axle bearing.
The bogies are equipped with four brake cylinders that brake all wheels with brake pads made of gray cast iron on both sides via a linkage . Plastic brake blocks were also used on a trial basis.
The locomotive is powered by the 16-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine 11 D 45 (230 mm × 300 mm, 200 l, 13.5: 1). The engine is charged in two stages via an exhaust gas turbocharger and Roots blower . The diesel engine and main generator are stored together on a subframe. The separately ventilated DC traction motors correspond in principle to those of the ТЭ10 - all six are connected in parallel. The drive and suspension, however, are completely new. The traction motors are built into the sprung part of the bogie frame, the wheel sets are driven by a hollow shaft with the interposition of rubber elements. The control system is the same as for the ТЭ10 , but with the use of better equipment. The power of the locomotive is set using 15 speed levels.
Further developments
As a freight train variant, a variant of the locomotive with a top speed of 100 km / h and only one driver's cab was developed in 1958. This variant of the locomotive, known as ТЭ50 , was manufactured and tested in one copy. Series production did not take place.
As a double locomotive with only one driver's cab and a transition between the two locomotive halves, a total of 116 locomotives were produced as the SŽD class 2ТЭП60 from 1964 to 1987.
