The SAC Rätia is a Graubünden section of the Swiss Alpine Club and, with 2592 members, is one of the largest sports clubs in the Canton of Graubünden . In addition to mountain sports, the section of the Swiss Alpine Club maintains a rescue service and operates six huts.
history
It was founded on April 19, 1863 in Olten . The official hour of birth of the section was January 4th, 1864. The “ Constitution of the Grisons members of the Swiss Alpine Club as Section Rhätia” took place in the “Red Lion” in Chur . Its first president was Johann Coaz (1822–1918), chief forest inspector for the cantons of Graubünden and St. Gallen. As a mountaineer and surveyor, he made 21 first ascents in the Alps. These included Piz Kesch and Piz Lischana in 1846 and Piz Bernina in 1850 .
The members of the new club not only promoted mountaineering, but also explored the Swiss Alpine region. There is a colorful mix of articles in the first yearbook. It was written about first ascent, routes to the summit, topographical surveying, the physiology of the marmot and even about the national song of the Alpine inhabitants.
In order to make it easier for the members of the association to inspect and explore the Silvretta , it was decided to build one of the first SAC huts there. The Silvrettahütte later became the property of the Davos section and in 1910 the St. Gallen section of the SAC.
activities
Tour offer
The Rätia SAC section offers tours all year round for all age groups, consisting of ski tours, alpine tours, climbing tours, hiking as well as avalanche and training courses in mountain sports. The association sensitizes members and participants to the human ecosystem in Switzerland and shows the effects of global warming in Graubünden.
Youth organization
JO Rätia is the youth organization of the SAC Rätia section and focuses on the disciplines of climbing, mountaineering, ski touring, freeriding, via ferrata and adventure trips. The members are between 10 and 22 years old.
Alpine rescue
The rescue station of the section ensures terrestrial rescue with rescuers, dogs and rescue specialists in the Chur – Lenzerheide area. The Swiss Air Rescue Service (REGA) is responsible for air rescue. The alpine rescue of the Rätia section has around 40 active members. These are rescuers in the traditional sense, rescuers with dogs in winter and summer, as well as specialists such as winch rescuers, helicopters or canyoning rescuers. This also includes a doctor and several paramedics.
Huts
The section operates six SAC huts in Graubünden. The huts offer simple accommodation for alpinists, climbers, hikers, nature lovers and, increasingly, for families with children and for mountain bikers.
