The SHK Laima Riga ( Latvian sieviešu hokeja clubs Laima ) is a Latvian woman hockey club from Riga . The club was founded in the spring of 1990 by Uldis Opits , Andrejs Zaķis and Marika Nagumanova and aimed to give individual athletes such as figure skaters , speed skaters and track and field athletes the opportunity to practice a team sport.

Since there were no other women's teams in Latvia, the team initially competed against boys' teams. In addition, from 1992 onwards it regularly took part in international tournaments where it met other women's teams. Starting in 2004 , other ice hockey clubs with women's teams emerged in Latvia and Estonia, for example the Ice Girls , also from Riga, and the Dreamland Queens Tallinn , which since then have hosted the Open Latvian Championship and the Open Estonian Championship at irregular intervals . The SHK Laima took first place several times.

Since 2004, SHK Laima has also regularly participated in IIHF tournaments. In December 2009 he reached the intermediate round of the IIHF Women's European Cup .
