The series SNB 1-4 were tender locomotives of the Danish private railway A / S Svendborg – Nyborg Jernbaneselskab (SNB) for the operation on the railway line opened in 1897 Svendborg – Nyborg .

history

For the operation of the line between Svendborg and Nyborg , the company procured four tender locomotives from the German locomotive factory Jung in Kirchen (Sieg) with construction numbers 287 to 280 and 321. The first three locomotives were delivered in 1897 and were named Tiselholt , Ørkildhus and Nyborg . Locomotive 4 followed in 1898 and was called Svendborg .

Technical Equipment

The wet steam locomotives had two driving axles and a leading running axle. They were equipped with a two-axle tender, had an external Allan control and a suction air brake for the locomotive and tender.

SNB 19–22

With the lease of the Svendborg – Nyborg railway line to the Sydfyenske Jernbaner in 1902 , the locomotives were taken over into the SFJ's material maintenance. Since the SFJ had the serial numbers 1-4 already assigned, they received the new serial numbers 19-22, but kept their property designation SNB . From then on, they were used in the entire SFJ route network.

In the early 1920s the locomotives were used up, so in 1923 a reconstruction of the four machines began in the SFJ workshop in Odense . Instead of the leading axle, they received a running bogie so that the axle sequence changed to 2 B + 2T.

It was practically new buildings using the tender, the drive wheel sets and some other parts, as a superheater , external cylinders with round slides and a Heusinger control were used in the locomotives.

The SFJ workshop assigned an SFJ build number for each of the locomotives. In 1923 SNB 21 (construction number 5) and SNB 22 (construction number 4) were brought to the workshop, in the following year they were SNB 19 (construction number 7) and SNB 20 (construction number 6). Work on all locomotives was completed in 1924. During the reconstruction, the locomotive names disappeared. After the renovation, the SNB 22 covered 81,689 km in 1923/1924.

DSB AF (I)

With the takeover of Sydfyenske Jernbaner on April 1, 1949 by Danske Statsbaner (DSB), the SNB locomotives were transferred to the state railways for use. However, the locomotives remained in the possession of the SNB and did not become the property of the state railways. They received the series designation AF (I) and the company numbers 119-122. Like all DSB steam locomotives, they received a tie around the chimney in the color combination red-white-red.

They remained at home in the Odense and Nyborg depots. The AF 119–121 were parked in Nyborg in late 1951 / early 1952 and still retired in 1952. AF 122 was handed over from Nyborg to Fåborg in 1952, returned in 1953 and was parked and retired in 1954. Immediately after retirement, the locomotives were sold for scrapping.
