The gymnastics club and the football club had played in the Baggerloch sports park since the mid-1950s and had also built a joint clubhouse there. In 1960, the so-called stadium community for inexpensive use of the stadium (today's Albgaustadion) was founded in Ettlingen, consisting of the Ettlingen 1896 football club, the Ettlingen workers' sports club in 1905, the Schwarz-Weiß-Ettlingen 1920 DJK and the Ettlingen 1847 gymnastics club

In 1961 the Albgau Stadium was equipped with a grandstand, and in 1977 with a synthetic track necessary for athletics. After the expansion in 1981, the stadium held over 30,000 seats. The grandstand has been closed since 2008 due to safety deficiencies.
