Wreck of a Saab Finlandia

The Saab Finlandia was presented in 1977 as an extended wheelbase sedan based on the Saab 99 . The basis for the model was the normal hatchback sedan in GLE design, in which the floor pan was extended by 20 cm. The first Saab Finlandia, created in 1977, still had the short doors of the normal version, so a 20 cm wide intermediate piece with a window was inserted between the front door and the rear door. Later the front and rear doors were each extended by 10 cm.

The 99 Finlandia was only produced in the 1977 and 1978 model years. The GLE was available in both years, followed by the Turbo Finlandia in 1978. With the introduction of the Saab 900 in the summer of 1978, the Finlandia was also made with the front of the new model.

With the introduction of the Sedan 900, the Finlandia also made the transition to the notchback. From model year 1984 the car was then offered as a 900 CD and also for export. After the automatic transmission for the turbo version became available, the GLE version was discontinued.

The Finlandia / CD models also served the Finnish government as a state limousine.
