Sabine Kebir

Sabine Kebir (* 8. May 1949 in Leipzig as Sabine Kortum ) is a German author , essayist , literary critic and Algeria -Spezialistin. She is a member of the PEN Center Germany .

Life

Kebir, the daughter of a professor of French intellectual history and a French teacher, studied Russian, French and Italian at the Humboldt University in East Berlin from 1967 to 1972 , where she had lived since 1955. In 1976 she was awarded a Dr. phil. in 1977 she emigrated to Algeria and lived in Algiers until 1988 , where she taught at the institutes for political science and journalism. 1989 habilitation they are in West Berlin and was a lecturer in Frankfurt. She then taught at the Institute for Philosophy at the Free University of Berlin.

Sabine Kebir is married to the Algerian storyteller and director Saddek el-Kebir . Together with him, she wrote several children's books based on Kabyle folk tales. Her publications include, among other things, literary, political and cultural theory topics.

In addition to her work as a non-fiction and fiction author and translator, Kebir regularly works for radio (with radio features ), television and print media such as taz , Tagesspiegel , die Junge Welt , Frankfurter Rundschau , Die Zeit and den Freitag .
