List of cat breeds |
The safari is a cat hybrid that results from the crossing of the small spotted cat (salt cat, rarely also called Geoffroy cat, Leopardus geoffroyi or Oncifelis geoffroyi ) with the house cat . This is remarkable because the spotted cat has 18 pairs of chromosomes, while the domestic cat has 19 pairs of chromosomes.
history
Washington State University temporarily bred the animals in order to carry out studies on hematopoiesis .
Appearance
The safari is similar to the domestic cat from the F2 generation. Their basic color is black, their markings are spotted, whereby the spots contrast well with the background. In the F1 generation, cats are extremely large. They weigh more than 11 kg, whereby the parents should usually weigh a maximum of 5 kg.
recognition
There is no known association where the safari can currently (as of July 2009) be issued. She can be registered as a foundation breed with the TICA ( The International Cat Association ).
