Saif ibn Sultan II ( Arabic سلطان بن سيف الثاني, DMG Sulṭān b. Saif aṯ-ṯānī ; † June 20, 1743 ) was Imam of Oman from 1718 to 1743.

The successor to Sultan ibn Saif II (1708-1718) was controversial because his son Saif was still a minor. Nevertheless, against the concerns of the clergy, the people pushed him through as the new Imam Saif ibn Sultan II. However, the clergy raised their favorite Muhanna ibn Sultan as counterimam in Rustaq as early as 1719 . However, this could not assert itself because it was not supported by the population. So he was soon overthrown and murdered by Yarub ibn Bilʿarab . When Yarub was elected as the new imam, this led to resistance from the tribes, for whom Saif ibn Sultan II was the rightful imam of the Ibadites .

In the period that followed, tensions broke out between the tribal groups of the Hinawy and the Ghafiry in an open civil war . The country was effectively divided, with Saif ibn Sultan II. Was recognized as imam in the area of the Hinawy and Bilʿarab ibn Himyar (1733–1736) in the area of the Ghafiry. Against the dominance of the Ghafiry, Saif ibn Sultan II allied with the Persians under Nadir Shah , who sent troops to Oman (1736–1737). But when they occupied the country and wanted to bring it under their rule, Saif managed an alliance with the Ghafiriy and the expulsion of the Persians.

However, the opposition of the clergy continued, who set up a new counterimam with Sultan ibn Murschid al-Yaruba (1741–1743). This again led to the civil war. When Said again turned to the Persians for help, they conquered the Omani coastal areas (1741–1743). Only in Suhar was Ahmad ibn Said able to assert himself against the Persian troops. Only with the death of both imams in 1743 and the end of the Yaruba dynasty after the rule of Bilʿarab ibn Himyar was Ahmad ibn Said, the founder of the Said dynasty , able to pacify Oman again and lead it to a new upswing.
